Key progress in metabolic research

Key progress has been made with the shipment of approximately 1,000 blood samples from Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf to Leiden University for metabolomic analysis. Similarly, 800 samples from the UCC-Smart cohort from UMC Utrecht and 1,000 from the AlphaOmega study from University Wageningen were also sent for advanced analysis.

These invaluable blood samples, originally collected as part of previous studies, have been carefully preserved at –80 degrees Celsius. To ensure their integrity, the samples were transported in specialized containers designed to prevent thawing during transit.

The metabolomic analyses will now be conducted at the laboratories of Professor Thomas Hankemeier's team at Leiden University. This represents a critical step forward in understanding the metabolic profiles essential to the project.

The data generated from these analyses will play a pivotal role in the development of the AI model, a key component of the project led by the AI teams at the University of Birmingham.
