Six months after its start, the Hypermarker trial has two active enrolling sites, enrolled its first patients, and published its study protocol
Hypermarker is a pan-European randomised clinical trial testing whether combining patients' clinical information with their metabolomic profile – how their metabolism influences their response to medication – can help doctors choose the most suitable blood pressure treatment for people with hypertension.
Achievements in the first six months
Since the trial started in March 2026, the study protocol, which sets out how the trial is designed and run, has been published in the journal BMJ Open: https://doi.org/10.1136/bmjopen-2026-117869
In its first six months, two sites (University Hospital of Birmingham in the UK and INCLIVA in Spain) obtained their ethical approval and began enrolling patients. They have enrolled 10% of the total expected patient enrolment. 42 patients have participated in the trial. Of these, 12 have completed all of their study visits.
Moreover, two more sites in Poland and the UK have been onboarded to the trial and are going through the ethical approval process. The team is confident that approval will follow soon and that both new sites will begin enrolling patients before the end of 2026.
