Hypermarker Study
Hypermarker is testing whether using computer programmes to bring together information about you, including from blood tests, can improve how doctors choose which type (or class) of medications you should receive. The blood tests check for tiny substances called metabolites that are naturally produced in your body and may reveal how you react to certain medications. The aim of the study is to show whether this new ‘smart’ approach can lead to better management of high blood pressure.

Why Is This Study Important?
High blood pressure (hypertension) can lead to serious health problems like heart attacks, strokes, and kidney disease. While there are many medicines to lower blood pressure, finding the best one for each person can be difficult.
This study looks at tiny substances in your blood, called metabolites, to see if they can help doctors choose the right medication for you.
Who Can Take Part?
Anyone with high blood pressure who needs medication
may be invited to join.

In some cases, based on the study criteria, you may not be eligible to take part in the study. This is not a reflection on you, but rather a way that we make sure the study is as safe and effective as possible.

Why Should I Join?
1
Your participation may help improve future treatments for high blood pressure.
2
You will receive a home blood pressure monitor that connects to an app to help you monitor your hypertension.
What Happens if I Join?
1
First Visit
(1-2 hours)
You’ll sign a consent form, provide health information, have your blood pressure checked, and give a small blood sample.
2
Randomly Assigned
to a Group
Group A
Your doctor will choose your medication as usual. After a few weeks, they will receive the smart approach information that uses your blood test and may suggest new medication for you.
Group B
Your healthcare team or study doctor will receive the smart approach information that uses your blood test from the start. They will then suggest the blood pressure tablet(s) that they feel are the most appropriate for you.
3
Tracking Your
Blood Pressure
You’ll check your blood pressure at home in the first week and for 4 weeks after any medication changes. This 4-week period will happen twice. Each week you need to measure your blood pressure twice a day for three days.

You will also be asked to fill out electronic questionnaires.
4
Optional
Final Visit
A blood test and a short questionnaire to help researchers understand more about your health.
How Long Does It Last?
You’ll be in the study for about 9-16 weeks, but you will not need many hospital visits.
Most of your participation happens at home through our study app and phone calls.

Is the Medication Safe?
YES
All medications used in this study are already commonly prescribed for high blood pressure. The study is not testing new drugs, just new ways to choose the best ones.
